Lord Carrington, RFT Patron

Earlier this month RFT heard the sad news of the death of one of its longstanding patrons, Lord Carrington.

Lord Carrington had a distinguished career having served in the Grenadier Guards in the Second World War and then in government as Defence Secretary between 1970 and 1974 and Foreign Secretary between 1979 and 1982.

Lord Carrington accepted the invitation to become a patron of RFT in 1992 when he became Chancellor of the University of Reading. In doing so recognised the important role an independent cinema plays in the cultural life of the University and more importantly the local town and community. He remained as RFT’s patron long after he retired from his chancellorship.

RFT’s Chair, Juliet has written to the Carrington family expressing our condolences at his passing.
