Documenting the career and farewell concert of the Canadian-American rock group The Band, Martin Scorsese’s The Last Waltz – the first of several Scorsese-directed music documentaries, which also include No Direction Home: Bob Dylan (2005), Shine a Light (2008) and George Harrison: Living in the Material World (2011) – is more than just a summary of a band’s accomplishments. Featuring guest appearances by the likes of Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Ronnie Wood and many others, the film becomes a testament to the collaborative nature of music itself.
Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring The Band, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Dr John, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and many of the great rock artists of the 1970’s.
