Documenting the 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival, D.A. Pennebaker’s ground-breaking Monterey Pop set the blueprint for all concert films to follow since its theatrical debut in 1968. Featuring performances from legendary music acts at the height of their powers, including The Mamas and the Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Ottis Reading, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Ravi Shankar, the film captures the spirit of the late 1960s like no other.
In 2018, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
Directed by D.A. Pennebaker.
