Francois Ozon forgoes his usual freewheeling style for a more sober approach in this devastating story of child abuse in the Catholic Church. Alexandre, a respected professional, decides to confront Father Preynat, who abused him thirty years earlier. But the crime took place outside the twenty-year limit for legal action, so Alexandre must search for more recent victims of Preynat if he is to find justice. Based on real events, this uncompromising film powerfully portrays the quiet rage of the abuse victims and the ensuing silence and complicity of the Catholic hierarchy.
