This film is not only a portrait of Bezerra da Silva, a legend of the Brazilian music genre pagode, but also of the composers of his songs, most of them blue-collar workers from the slums of Rio de Janeiro. The film explores the links between the lyrics and their daily lives, but also the economic contradictions of their art: they are the composers of commercial hits but don’t own their songs anymore. After the film we will have a Q&A with director Márcia Derraik.
