Roman (Matthias Schoenaerts, in a remarkable performance) is a taciturn prisoner in a rural Nevada jail who has spent a long time in isolation, and, by his own admission, is “not good with people”. Working in the prison’s wild mustang training programme, Roman finds himself drawn to the wildness of one horse that none of the convicts can break. Under the watchful eye of grizzled old-timer Myles (Bruce Dern), Roman and the “unbreakable” horse form a fragile bond in this assured, moving and beautifully photographed film.
