The Children Act

Thursday 4th October 2018 - 7:45 pm - 9:50 pm, Palmer Building

British drama at its best! Based on the 2014 novel by Ian McEwan, this harrowing film is set in London and stars Emma Thompson as an eminent High Court judge, Fiona Maye, who specialises in family law cases. While dealing with her own marital crisis, she is faced with making a life or death ruling about the treatment of a terminally ill teenager.

UK 2017 – Directed by Richard Eyre with Emma Thompson, Stanley Tucci, Fionn Whitehead – 105min

A typically marvellous performance from Emma Thompson elevates what might have otherwise played as melodrama in this sophisticated Ian McEwan adaptation – VARIETY

Thompson’s Justice Maye weighs lives and loves in the balance in this restrained tragedy, adapted by Ian McEwan from his own novel and consummately directed by Richard Eyre – BFI
