As part of Dying Matters Week
Ralph (John Hurt in his last film), a once-famous screenwriter and film director, is in his seventies and terminally ill. He wants to be reconciled with his long-abandoned son, as well as ensuring he is not a burden to his younger devoted wife as he goes ‘into that good night’. Charles Dance brings mystery and a twist. Based on the successful play by NJ Crisp, its brilliant and witty arguments address issues that we prefer to avoid.
USA 2017 – Directed by Eric Styles with John Hurt, Charles Dance, Sofia Helin, Max Brown – 92 min
So effortlessly good is Hurt … that he rather outclasses the rest of this somewhat workmanlike picture – SCREEN INTERNATIONAL
