Recovering from serious illness, Lucie (Foresti) doesn’t have a reason to live. Supported by her family and Dalila (Garcia) the dance teacher, she reluctantly goes out with Clovis (Kassovitz). Both a drama (fighting against cancer) and a romantic comedy (love is all we need), the film is a recipe against depression and despair. People always reveal their true self in impossible situations. In fact, it is the same for the actors who are miscast successfully! Foresti, the desperate patient comes from comic stand up, Kassovitz, the romantic lover is a politicaly committed actor and Garcia is the happy-go-lucky for a change from tragic figures. Feel-good films are too rare.
France-Belgium 2017 – French with subtitles – directed by Anne-Gaëlle Daval – with Florence Foresti, Mathieu Kassovitz, Nicole Garcia – 99 min
To triumph in the romantic comedy genre, it’s all about addressing a rather tricky balance, and ensuring that both the rom and the com are explored…. It’s something the French just seem to excel in, tonally getting it spot on… HeyUGuys
