Cartola is one of the most important singers and composers in the history of samba, as well as a renowned icon of Brazilian culture. By assembling a wide range of archival images, Lírio Ferreira and Hilton Lacerda craft an account that brings together the unstable life of the artist, the evolution of Brazilian music and the history of the country over the course of the twentieth century.
