Call Me By Your Name (15)

Thursday 1st February 2018 - 7:45 pm - 10:00 pm, Palmer Building

Two people are irresistibly drawn to each other in this deeply sensitive story. One is the precociously accomplished teenage son of a distinguished academic, and the other a graduate student who arrives at the Lombardy household to help with his research. The outcome is an intensely realised summer romance, its languorous progress superbly, cinematically controlled and weighted like a thriller, indulging our senses with poetic details and drawing outstanding performances from the main characters.
Italy-France 2017 – partly in Italian and French with subtitles – directed by Luca Guadagnino – with Armie Hammer, Timothée Chalamet, Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, Esther Garrel, Victoire Du Bois – 132 min

Guadagnino recreates Elio’s life-changing summer with such intensity that we might as well be experiencing it first-hand… alongside such masters of sensuality as Pedro Amodóvar and François Ozon – VARIETY
Chalamet, with his restless, impatient physicality and a face as sensual and sculpted as a fallen angel from a Caravaggio painting, is quite simply astonishing – THE GUARDIAN
Guadignino…fills every scene with life. Trees are heavy with fruit; people are always eating; the chirping of crickets a constant soundtrack – EMPIRE
